‘THIS IS NAYA KASHMIR’: FRIENDLY EXCHANGE BETWEEN KASHMIRI MAN AND BIHARI MIGRANT WORKER ABOUT DAILY-WAGE LABOUR GOES VIRAL
A video of a friendly exchange between a daily-wage worker from Bihar and a Kashmiri man is grabbing attention on social media. The video shows the Kashmiri man discussing how Biharis took over almost every work in the Valley.
The viral clip begins with the Kashmiri man panning the camera towards a man and a young boy from Bihar standing near a field. “Yeh dekho Bihar se yeh log aate hain. Yahan ka sab kaam khatam kiya inlogon ne (Look! These people come from Bihar and finished all the work),” the Kashmiri man says.
The man goes on and says you guys have not spared a single job opportunity for Kashmir. “Naai ka kaam dekho! Naai ka kaam bhi khatam kiya, plaster ka bhi kaam khatam kiya, carpenter ka bhi kaam khatam kiya (You guys have taken barber's job, plastering job and even a carpenter’s job),” he says. With a smile on his face, the Bihari man replies, “Sab karega. Ab jo fasal lagaate hain na wo bhi hmlog seekh lega dheere dheere (We will do everything. Now, we will learn farming as well).”
“Wazwan ka kaam kab start karoge (When will you start making wazwan),” the Kashmiri man asks. “Kya hogaya wazwan (What’s wazwan?)” the Bihari man asks. After the Kashmiri explains what wazwan is, the Bihari man says, “Na na! Wo log aap banaiye. Hame bss kaam karna hai aur roti chahiye bass (No, no! You guys take care of it. We just want to work and have rotis).”
The Kashmiri man ends the conversation saying, “Kuch hamare liye bhi kaam choro aap (Leave some work for us, please).” Replying to him, the Bihari man says, “Chalo aajaao kaam pe aao (Come, work with us).”
Towards the end of the video, the Kashmiri man says he will share the video and it will be circulated till Kanyakumari. “Han daalo daalo koi baat nahi! Facebook pe daalo. Bolna plaster Rs 7 foot karta hai (No worries, share it on Facebook. Tell them I charge Rs 7 per foot for plaster work),” the Bihar man says.
Sharing the video, a user wrote, “This is naya Kashmir.”

With over 38,000 views, the viral video prompted several reactions. One user said, “Plaster 7₹ foot karta h was epic.” Another user commented, “He who works will get work.”
“These Bihari labourers are humble and very hard working, please do not mock them. If Kashmiris want to work who will stop them. You need to have the intent to work hard, don't blame others for your laziness,” a third user reacted.
