AIR INDIA FLIGHT ACHIEVES LANDMARK NIGHT LANDING WITH 68 PASSENGERS AT PORT BLAIR AIRPORT

In a landmark achievement, an Air India Airbus A321 flight on June 28 made a successful night landing at the INS Utkrosh, which is under the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) and is situated on the premises of Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair. The aircraft was carrying 68 passengers

The aircraft departed from Kolkata at approximately 5:40 pm and landed in Port Blair at 7:34 pm, subsequently proceeding to Veer Savarkar International Terminal for passenger disembarkation.

The Andaman and Nicobar Command’s statement emphasised that this successful night landing marks a pivotal advancement in air connectivity to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which will greatly benefit the islanders and enhance tourism. The accomplishment is the result of sustained efforts by the Indian Navy, ANC, and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) over recent years.

To accommodate the expected increase in tourist inflow, the AAI upgraded the Instrument Landing System (ILS) to CAT-I at Veer Savarkar International Airport. A senior ANC official highlighted that Utkrosh Airfield is now fully equipped for both day and night operations. Besides its strategic significance, these developments represent a crucial step in improving regional connectivity and bolstering the ‘Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik’ (UDAN) scheme.

The official also encouraged private airline operators to maximize the use of the night landing and takeoff facilities at Port Blair Airport, further enhancing the region’s connectivity and accessibility.
