MK STALIN PLANS 5TH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN TAMIL NADU SPANNING ACROSS 2,000 ACRES
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday announcedplans to build a new international airport in Hosur spread across 2,000 acres with a capacity to handle 3 crore passengers per year.
"The proposed airport, with a capacity to handle 30 million passengers per year, will be sprawled over 2,000 acres," MK Stalin informed the Assembly.
The decision has been taken to give a boost to investments and employment as several manufacturing and industrial units are located in and around Hosur.
Reacting to the announcement made by MK Stalin, Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Rajaa said, "The announcement of the new airport in Hosur is a monumental step forward for the region. This project will greatly enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth, benefiting not only Hosur but also neighbouring districts such as Dharmapuri and Salem, while also providing a significant boost to various parts of Bengaluru. With Hosur's excellent weather, the new airport will foster a twin-city ecosystem with Bengaluru, propelling growth in both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka."
Hosur already boasts excellent connectivity to EXIM gateways and is near other major business hubs and industrial clusters, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Sriperumbudur, and
Coimbatore. The region has emerged as a nucleus for auto and EV manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, logistics, electronics, and is developing into an IT hub with a planned IT park.
Prominent companies such as Tata Electronics, TVS, Ashok Leyland, Titan, and Rolls-Royce (IAMPL) have established significant operations in the area.
