UNDERWATER METRO IN DELHI? VIDEO OF WATERLOGGED SUBWAY GOES VIRAL

A day after the national capital recorded its highest single-day rainfall in 88 years, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, predicting heavy rain for Saturday as well. Following the deaths of five people in rain-related incidents on Friday, the recovery of three labourers' bodies from the rubble of a wall collapse in Vasant Vihar has raised the death toll to eight this morning. Meanwhile, according to news agency PTI, civic agencies and police received over 300 complaints about water logging across Delhi on Friday.

Social media is inundated with visuals depicting widespread waterlogging in the national capital. Among these, a particularly striking video of the Kashmere Gate Metro station has surfaced, showing the subway inundated with rainwater. The footage reveals a dramatic scene as water pours in relentlessly from the stairwell, transforming the usually bustling metro station into a flooded pool. The underground metro station can be seen flooded in ankle-deep water, with heavy downpours cascading down the steps.

Delhi experienced an unprecedented deluge, potentially marking the highest June rainfall in almost a century. Addressing the media after a meeting with Lieutenant Governor V. K. Saxena, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Atishi disclosed that the capital received 228 mm of rainfall within a span of 24 hours, the most since 1936. In response, the Lieutenant Governor directed the immediate establishment of a 24x7 emergency control room and mandated that desilting operations be completed within a week.

Early Friday morning saw a tragic incident at Delhi's airport Terminal 1, where a section of the departure area canopy collapsed, resulting in the death of a taxi driver and injuries to eight others. Consequently, all flight departures from the terminal were briefly halted. The Delhi Police has initiated a case under sections pertaining to negligence leading to death in connection with the mishap.
