TEAM INDIA'S DEPARTURE FROM BARBADOS FURTHER DELAYED, TO REACH DELHI ON THURSDAY EARLY MORNING: REPORTS

Team India faced a further delay as they continued to be stuck in Barbados for the last three days. A contingent of around 70 people including the player’s families, support staff and BCCI officials are currently waiting for their turn to return to the country.

BCCI reportedly arranged a chartered flight to bring all the people back but the wait now has only extended. As per Sports Tak, the flight which was supposed to reach the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados at around 3 AM IST on Wednesday is now expected to land four hours behind the scheduled time.

The initial plan was to fly via the USA and UAE but the arrival of Hurricane Beryl spoiled all the plans. It was expected the Indian contingent would leave Barbados at around 6 PM local time and would reach Delhi on Wednesday evening around 7:45 PM IST. But as per reports, they are now likely to reach the Indian capital in the wee hours of Thursday.

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley shared an update on the status of Team India’s return. "(We have) been working to ensure that everyone is safe in Barbados, Barbadians and all of the visitors, of course, who came for cricket World Cup. We were very blessed that the storm did not come on land.

"The hurricane was 80 miles south of us, which limited, the level of damage on shore. But as you can see, we've had costal, infrastructure and costal assets have been badly damaged."

Upon landing in New Delhi, the entire squad will likely meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It remains to be seen how things unfold in the next few hours.

Coming to the match, India defeated South Africa by seven wickets to claim the 2024 T20 World Cup trophy. Virat Kohli shone with the bat while Hatrdik Pandya’s three wicket haul saw the Men In Blue come up with a clutch display against the Proteas.

Due to the delay, BCCI also had to name three replacements for Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal who were supposed to join the Indian team in Zimbabwe.
