HEAVY RAINFALL LIKELY IN 9 STATES FOR NEXT FOUR DAYS: WEATHER BODY

Nine states could witness heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next four days, till June 27,the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted.

In a statement, the weather body predicted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Goa, parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka during the next four days. Similarly, it predicted heavy rainfall in Gujarat on June 23 and 24, in the ghat regions of Tamil Nadu on June 23, in Kerala and Mahe from June 23 to June 25.

It further said that Madhya Pradesh, the Vidarbha region and Chhattisgarh would likely receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds during the next four days.

The IMD predicted fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds for parts of West Bengal and Sikkim on June 23 and 24, and for Uttar Pradesh from June 25 to 27. Similarly, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha will get light to moderate rainfall during the next four days, it said.

Meanwhile, it said that heatwaves would prevail in parts of Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh till June 25 and abate thereafter.

The IMD's warning highlights the potential for severe weather conditions, including localised flooding, road closures, reduced visibility, and traffic disruptions. Additionally, there is a noteworthy risk of damage to infrastructure and crops.

The advisory reveals that flash floods may occur in various watersheds within Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, and other meteorological subdivisions.
