Google has officially announced the date for its annual "Made by Google" event, set for August 13, 2024. This announcement comes earlier than expected, as these events typically take place in October after Apple brings its iPhone lineup. While we are expecting the launch of the new Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro - this time there are also rumours of Google planning to introduce a new Pixel Pro variant in the lineup along with new Fold-renamed as Pixel 9 Pro Fold within the lineup.

While everything is under the wraps by Google, let's take a detailed look at everything we know so far about the new Pixel 9 lineup based on speculation and rumours.

What to expect at the event

The centrepiece of the event will undoubtedly be the unveiling of the Pixel 9 series. This year, Google is expected to launch not just one but potentially three models in the Pixel 9 lineup, including a standard Pixel 9, a Pixel 9 Pro, and a Pixel Fold.

Pixel 9 series design and display

The upcoming Pixel 9 series is anticipated to bring significant upgrades in design, performance, and functionality. Starting with the display, the Pixel 9 Pro models are expected to offer two size options: a standard 6.1-inch and a larger 6.7-inch OLED display. Both screens are likely to feature high refresh rates and superior colour accuracy, ensuring a vivid and smooth visual experience. Meanwhile the XL model according to OneLeaks will boast a 6.7-inch display.

The Pixel 9 Pro models are also anticipated to sport a new design, with a reduced camera bar that no longer stretches edge to edge but is instead contained within a vertical pill on the back.

Google might also introduce a new feature called Adaptive Touch which will enhance the screen's responsiveness to various conditions such as environmental factors and screen protectors.

As for the colour options, Google might launch Pixel 9 Proin 4 option including black, white, green, and pink.

Better performance with new Tensor chip

Under the hood, the Pixel 9 series will be powered by the Tensor G4 chip, Google's custom processor, which will likely bring significant improvements in performance and AI capabilities. This chip, developed in collaboration with Samsung, is expected to offer better thermal management and overall efficiency. However a report by Android Authority suggests that the upgrade in the chip will be smaller than expected earlier.

The Pixel 9 Pro models could also come with up to 16GB of RAM, allowing for seamless multitasking and enhanced performance, particularly for AI-driven applications.

Better cameras

Cameras are always the best part of the Pixel series and with Pixel 9 the thing will be the same. According to 9 to 5 Google The Pixel 9 Pro models will likely feature a triple-lens setup with advanced computational photography capabilities. The reports of a large sensor on the camera island suggests support for variable aperture, enabling superior low-light performance and creative photography options.

Google is also likely to add enhanced AI features, such as the Magic Editor and new functionalities powered by the Gemini Nano AI in the series to provide users with cutting-edge photo and video editing tools.

Connectivity options

In terms of connectivity, the Pixel 9 series is anticipated to address previous models' connectivity issues with a new and improved modem. Additionally, satellite connectivity features, similar to the iPhone's Emergency SOS via satellite, are expected to be included, enhancing the devices' reliability in remote areas.

The phones will also debut with Android 15, offering new software features and a more integrated hardware-software experience. This new OS version will likely introduce additional enhancements and optimizations, further enriching the user experience.

The Pixel Fold, rumoured to be part of the Pixel 9 series, will likely share many of these features and specifications, offering a high-resolution flexible display and a sophisticated design. Therefore also renders around a white colour option for the Fold.
