TOURISTS FLOCK TO DEHRADUN’S PICNIC SPOT GUCCHUPANI CAVE, VIRAL VIDEO RAISES SAFETY CONCERNS
The soaring temperatures in North India last week led to an influx of people seeking relief from the heat in the hills and mountains. A video depicting a large number of tourists crowding a popular picnic spot in Dehradun, Uttarakhand has sparked criticism on social media.
The viral video captures the chaos as several tourists gathered at the Gucchupani Cave. Men, women, and children can be seen swiftly walking through the cave in long queues. Also known as Robbers Cave, it is believed that robbers used the place to store their loot and hide from the British Raj. A cold water river flows down the cave, making it a tourist attraction.
Sharing the video, an Instagram handle, Uttarakhand Wala, wrote, “The viral video from Guchhupani is sparking widespread discussion. The place is buzzing with an enormous crowd.”

Shared on June 23, the video raised safety concerns with one saying, “Is the administration sleeping? Allowing such an enormous crowd in an ecologically fragile place like this. Seriously anything for money. Is that how you promote tourism?”Another user commented, “Sad ! No check by the administration on this reckless crowd!”
“This used to be hidden gem of Dehradun, so sad to see at this state,” a third user reacted.
Several tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh have been inundated with traffic jams which were captured in videos that quickly circulated on social media. One notable video from 2023 showed a man driving a Mahindra Thar SUV through the Chandra River in Lahaul Valley to bypass a traffic jam, capturing the internet's attention.
