'A BIT CRAZY THIS MORNING': MYSTERIOUS HOLE APPEARS ON AUSTRALIA'S MAIN BEACH

During her morning walk to work, Carolyn Evans encountered an unusual sight on Main Beach, a well-known beach in Queensland. She discovered a two-meter hole near the shoreline, with water seemingly gushing out of it, according to a report from News.com.au.

"A bit crazy this morning," she said in a Facebook post.

Shocked by the unusual occurrence, Ms Evans reached out to her local council, expressing her worries about the potential safety hazards posed by the hole. She mentioned that nearby tradesmen were equally astonished by the sight.

“I couldn’t believe it, I have never seen anything like this before. I spoke to some tradesmen working nearby and they were also quite shocked," Evans said.

"I contacted my local councillor Darren Taylor to let him know about the hole," she added. "I was more concerned about safety," New York Post quoted her post.

According to a spokesperson from the City of Gold Coast, the hole was an unintended consequence of ongoing council works.

The spokesperson explained that the Surfers Paradise Sand Backpass System, designed to replenish and safeguard the northern beaches from erosion, was undergoing testing in preparation for its July operation.

During routine pressure testing on Tuesday, a minor leak was detected, resulting in the formation of a hole in the sand at Main Beach.

The spokesperson assured that the leak was swiftly identified and fixed on the same day, with the affected area being refilled with sand.

Testing of the system is set to continue throughout the week, with the inaugural sand pumping campaign expected to commence the following week.
