'PROMPT ACTION AGAINST THOSE RESPONSIBLE': INDIA ON DEATH OF INDIAN FARM WORKER IN ITALY'S LATINA

Rome: Raising the issue of the death of an Indian national, Satnam Singh with Italy, India on Wednsday called for prompt action against those responsible for his demise. The secretary (Consular Passport and Visa Division and Overseas Indian Affairs) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Muktesh Pardeshi raised the matter with Luigi Maria Vignali, Director General for Migratory Policies and Italians Abroad, Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Muktesh Pardeshi said that "the Indian Embassy in Italy is in contact with the family of Satnam Singh for consular help and transportation of mortal remains to India."

According to the Flai CGIL Trade Union, Indian farm worker Satnam Singh lost his life after being abandoned on the street following an accident.

Singh died after he was dumped on the road by his employer after his arm was severed in a machine.

The incident, which occurred last week, has shocked Italy with protesters demanding strict action against the employer. His employers put him in a truck and "dumped" him like a "bag of rubbish near his home" along with his severed hand.

Satnam Singh's Death Triggers Protest

31-year-old Satnam Singh, who had been working without legal papers, died last week after his arm got sliced off while working on a machine. The farm worker was working for dumped him by the road, along with his severed limb.

Local police dispatched an air ambulance following a distress call from Singh's wife and friends but he could not be saved. The death has triggered massive protests across the nation with people demanding swift justice and also better labour laws.

"He was thrown out like a dog. There is exploitation every day, we suffer it every day, it must end now," said Gurmukh Singh, head of the Indian community in the Lazio region of central Italy.
