META AI ROLLS OUT IN INDIA FOR WHATSAPP, INSTAGRAM, FACEBOOK USERS: HOW TO ACCESS AND DISABLE THE CHATBOT

Meta started the rollout of its AI chatbot, called the Meta AI, across all its platforms including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Messenger.

According to the tech giant, the chatbot is built on its latest large language model, Llama 3, and is capable of complex reasoning, following instructions, visualising ideas, and solving nuanced problems.

How to set it up

Users who have received the Meta AI update on all platforms will automatically see the blue-purple circle in the search box across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger. Alternatively, you can also access it by using “@MetaAI” prompt to summon it in a group chat on WhatsApp and share your queries with it.

Since the rollout is not complete, there is a chance that you might not have received the update yet. If your friends are having fun with Meta AI and you’re not, there is not much you can do except for waiting.

How to access it

On Facebook, users can find it on their Feed as well. If you see something that interests you, you can ask Meta AI for more related information. “So if you see a photo of the northern lights in Iceland, you can ask Meta AI what time of year is best to check out the aurora borealis,” Meta cites as an example.

To use it on Instagram and WhatsApp, you can summon Meta AI by tagging it (@MetaAI) and typing your query. You can share the response with the other person by pressing enter after the chatbot has responded. You can also access the chatbot on a browser through its website meta.ai

How to disable

For those of you who do not wish to use Meta AI and do not want to see it on any of the platforms, you can disable the chatbot by following these steps:

To disable AI features in WhatsApp, start by opening the app and tapping on the three dots in the top right corner. Select "Settings" > "Chats" > "Show Meta AI Button". Then, toggle the switch to the off position to deactivate the feature.

To manage AI settings on Facebook, open the app and tap on the downward arrow in the top right corner. Select "Settings & Privacy" > "Settings" > "Privacy" > "Your Privacy Controls". Scroll down and tap on "Manage Your AI Settings". From there, toggle off the switches for the features you wish to disable.

To turn off AI features in Instagram, open the app and tap on your profile picture in the bottom right corner. Select "Settings" > "Privacy" > "AI Features". Toggle off the switches for the features you want to disable to manage your AI preferences effectively.
