IPHONE TO GET THESE INDIA-SPECIFIC FEATURES WITH IOS 18; CHECK IF YOUR IPHONE WILL GET THEM

iOS 18, the latest major update for iPhones, is easily the most feature-loaded in recent memory, offering a bevy of customisation options, including the ability to freely arrange apps and widgets on the Home Screen. It also features what’s being billed as the “biggest” redesign of the Photos app. Elsewhere, iOS 18 also brings quality-of-life updates like call recording and new text effects in iMessage.

Apple has also introduced a bunch of India-specific features in iOS 18 all designed to enhance the experience across various facets of the iPhone. The updates mostly focus on enhancing communication whether it be through the multilingual keyboard or multilingual Siri. iPhone users will also get improved language search and access to Indian numerals to personalise their lock screens.

Here’s the full list of India-specific features coming to your iPhone with iOS 18:

  1. Multilingual Keyboard: One of the standout features in iOS 18 is the multilingual keyboard. It will be available on iPhone 12 and later models. Users can now type phonetically with Latin characters in English and up to two additional Indian languages for a trilingual predictive typing experience. This feature is integrated into Messages, Notes, and any other app that uses the keyboard. The multilingual keyboard supports QuickPath and Emoji Prediction, with additional language scripts displayed on either side of the suggestions field for seamless switching. Moreover, it can remember the script used in previous conversations and automatically change to the correct language and suggestions as you type. The supported languages include English, Bangla, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu.
  2. Alphabetical Keyboard Layouts: iOS 18 introduces alphabetical layouts for 11 Indian languages, allowing users to type in Indian scripts directly. The keys are arranged alphabetically, and vowel and conjunct keys change dynamically based on what the user is typing, making it easier to find the correct character. These layouts are available in Bangla, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
  3. Enhanced Language Search: Enhanced language search allows users to find words in their accustomed spellings, irrespective of the content’s spelling style. This feature is available in Assamese, Bangla, Devanagari, and Gujarati.
  4. Multilingual Siri: Siri now supports nine Indian languages along with Indian English. Users can mix English with Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu to set alarms, launch apps, get directions, play music, or check the weather. Siri can also respond in Hindi to Hindi queries.
  5. Translate App: iOS 18 adds Hindi support to the Translate app, Safari webpages, and other systemwide translation features, including apps like Notes.
  6. Enhanced Communication Features: iOS 18 introduces Live Voicemail Transcription in Indian English, support for Live Caller ID, smart call history search, and a new phone keypad search and dialling experience.
  7. Customisable Lock Screen: In iOS 18, users can now customise the time on the lock screen with Indian numerals from 12 languages, including Arabic, Arabic Indic, Bangla, Devanagari, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Kannada, Malayalam, Meitei, Odia, Ol Chiki, and Telugu.
