KERALA BOY DIES OF RARE BRAIN-EATING AMOEBA INFECTION, 3RD DEATH IN 3 MONTHS

A 14-year-old boy in Kerala died of amoebic meningoencephalitis, a rare brain disease caused by a free-living amoeba found in contaminated water, when he reportedly took a bath in a pond in Kozhikode. This is the third death in the state due to the infection in the past three months.

Mridul was admitted on June 24 to a private hospital after he contracted the infection. He was under treatment before he died on Thursday.

Earlier, two deaths were reported - a five-year-old girl from Malappuram in May and a 13-year-old girl from Kannur in June.
