S SHANKAR SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON SEQUELS; SAYS THERE ARE NO PLANS YET FOR 'SIVAJI 2,' 'NAYAK 2,' OR 'APARICHIT 2'

Renowned filmmaker S Shankar, celebrated for his cinematic gems like ‘Indian,’ ‘Sivaji,’ and ‘Robot,’ recently offered insights into his upcoming projects and clarified rumors about potential sequels.

With the eagerly awaited ‘Indian 2’ (also known as ‘Hindustani 2’) set to hit theaters on July 12, 2024, Shankar during his conversation with Pinkvilla addressed speculation surrounding sequels to his other iconic films such as ‘Sivaji,’ ‘Nayak,’ and ‘Aparichit.’ When questioned about the prospects of these sequels, Shankar emphasized his approach to filmmaking, stating, "Most of my films resonate with the common man, achieving a pan-India appeal. While there's often demand for sequels like 'Aparichit 2,' 'Sivaji 2,' and 'Nayak 2,' I'm cautious about sequelizing for the sake of it."

Elaborating further, Shankar underscored the importance of a compelling narrative and thematic relevance in deciding on sequels. "The storyline should organically evolve and resonate with me creatively," he remarked. "At present, I don't have any concrete plans for sequels, but if the right idea strikes, I'm open to exploring it."

Shankar's current focus remains on the promotional campaign for ‘Hindustani 2,’ followed by the completion of shooting for ‘Hindustani 3’ and ‘Game Changer,’ each requiring approximately 15 days of filming. Post-production work on these projects will follow, with ‘Hindustani 3’ eyeing a release within six months of ‘Hindustani 2,’ and ‘Game Changer’ potentially hitting screens in the summer of 2025.

In terms of future ventures, Shankar expressed a desire to diversify his directorial portfolio. "I'm intrigued by the disaster genre, akin to '2012,' as well as exploring narratives that echo the spirit of James Bond, albeit with a unique twist," he shared.

As the countdown to July 12 begins, Shankar's fans and cinema enthusiasts alike eagerly await the return of ‘Hindustani.’ Stay tuned for more updates on Shankar's cinematic journey and his future projects, promising an exciting array of narratives and genres from one of India's most revered directors.
