AYUSHMANN KHURRANA OPENS UP ABOUT DEALING WITH FAILURES AFTER VICKY DONOR
Ayushmann Khurrana is one of the biggest stars in Bollywood today, with films like Shubh Mangal Savdhaan, Andhadhun and Dream Girl in his kitty. He has always given power packed performances. The actor's last movie Dream Girl 2 was also well loved. While the actor has maintained a good balance of hit films, he has also experienced back-to-back failures following his debut movie, Vicky Donor. In a recent interaction, the Article 15 actor reflected on this journey and recalled how his 2015 film Dum Laga Ke Haisha played a pivotal role, leading to a series of eight back-to-back superhits.
Talking with Forbes India about how he dealt with failure, Ayushmann said, “I think you become a true man when you have the ability to deal with failures. Success is a very lousy teacher and your failures are your friends, philosophers and guides. If you haven’t experienced failures during your early years, it becomes difficult to deal with them when you are at a certain age. Life is like that.”
He added, “After my first film, I saw 3 back-to-back unsuccessful films and its just the kind of films that I was getting. After Vicky Donor I had a certain benchmark but I wasn’t getting films of that ilk. That journey started again with Dum Laga Ke Haisha. Then there were 8 back-to-back super hit films after that. So, it's not about the actor. It the kind of script writers you get in touch with and the choices you make, it isn’t about personal craft, it’s a collaborative effort.”
After making a successful debut in Shoojit Sircar’s Vicky Donor in 2012, Ayushmann Khurrana starred in Nautanki Saala, Bewakoofiyaan, and Hawaizaada. All three films failed at the box office. He then starred in Sharat Katariya directorial Dum Laga Ke Haisha alongside Bhumi Pednekar, where he played the role of a disgruntled high-school dropout who gets married to an educated but overweight girl. Though he isn’t happy with this union in the start, he gradually falls for her after they participate in a race. Made on a budget of Rs 14 crore, the film was a box office success, as it minted Rs 113 crore.
