WHO WAS SEAMUS KIRBY? NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND 'WATERBROTHER' DIES AT 29

Seamus Daniel Kirby, of Middletown, Rhode Island, passed away on Apil 14, his family announced in an obituary. While the exact circumstances surrounding his passing remain unclear, rumors suggest that Kirby may have been involved in a spearfishing accident. However, at present, these speculations have not been confirmed.

Born in Newport, RI, on October 14, 1994, Kirby was a dynamic and energetic individual "whose presence lit up any room he entered," his family said in the obituary.

Educated locally, Kirby attended Underwood School, Cluny School, and Pennfield School before graduating from Rocky Hill Country Day School in 2013. He distinguished himself not only academically but also athletically, earning numerous accolades for his prowess on the hockey rink and lacrosse field.

In 2012, he earned a spot on the Boys Varsity Lacrosse SENEISAA first team All-League and boasted records for the highest number of goals, assists and face-offs won both in a single season and throughout his four-year Varsity career.

Kirby was also an avid motocross enthusiast from a young age. By the age of 12, he had already clinched the NESC Motocross Championship in the 85cc class.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Historic Preservation and Community Planning from the College of Charleston in 2017, Kirby returned to his roots in Rhode Island.

He joined the Kirby Construction, the family business, as a project manager, working alongside his father, Jerry, with whom he shared a deep bond. The company specializes in building custom luxury homes and preserving and restoring historic properties.

Kirby is survived by his wife, Tatum Wadensten, their children and his extended family, including his brother, Rome Kirby IV, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 27 at St. Mary’s Church in Newport, followed by a private burial.
