CSK SUFFER MASSIVE BLOW AS MATHEESHA PATHIRANA FLYING BACK TO SRI LANKA DUE TO INJURY

Chennai Super Kings pacer Matheesha Pathirana will be returning to his home country of Sri Lanka as the speedster is nursing a hamstring injury.

The pacer will complete his recovery in Sri Lanka. The right-arm pacer has played in six matches in IPL 2024, where he picked up 13 wickets at an economy rate of 7.68. Pathirana has been Chennai's standout bowler throughout the IPL 2024 tournament.

His absence will hurt the Chennai team even more considering they're already missing Deepak Chahar, who also suffering a serious injury that is set to rule him out of the season.

Chennai Super Kings released a short statement about Pathirana's injury and said that the franchise "wishes Pathirana a quick recovery."

The franchise made the announcement in the middle of the IPL 2024 match between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings.

Chennai were fifth in the standings ahead of the match against Punjab, with five wins and five losses.

It must be noted that Pathirana is the third Sri Lankan bowler to have injury issues in IPL 2024. Left-armer Dilshan Madushanka, who was supposed to make his debut in the IPL for Mumbai Indians, has been ruled out of the entire IPL season due to a hamstring injury in the ODI series against Bangladesh before the IPL started.

Leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga also had to skip IPL 2024 because of chronic heel pain in his left foot.

The island nation is yet to publicise its 15-player provisional squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies, which will start from next month.
