YASHASVI JAISWAL CREATES HISTORY, BREAKS 89-YEAR-OLD TEST RECORD WITH FIFTY IN IND VS BAN 1ST TEST

Star Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal had another good outing for the Indian cricket team as he led the charge of batting in the first Test against Bangladesh which was being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on September 19 (Thursday). He became the first batter in history to score more than 750 runs in their first 10 innings at home Tests. The young batting sensation has been dominating the red-ball cricket scene with his bat since making his Test debut against West Indies in 2023. He is shattering records left, right, and center and did the same in this game at Chepauk.

The 22-year-old shattered yet another record on the opening day of the first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai. This time, he broke a record that had stood for 89 years, becoming the first batter in the history of Test cricket to score more than 750 runs in their opening ten innings at home. The previous record was held by George Headley of the West Indies, who after ten Test innings in 1935 set the record for the most runs at home for a batter. Headley had scored an incredible 747 runs. In the Chepauk Test's first session, Jaiswal beat this mark.

Coming into the Test, the southpaw had 712 runs to his name in home Tests in the first 9 innings. He went past Headley’s record when he reached the 37-run mark in the first session of the opening day. He went on to smash a fifty which was crucial in not letting his team fall on the backfoot. Team India lost three early wickets as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli got out after scoring just 6 runs each and Shubman Gill could not even open his account.

He then joined a crucial 62-run stand with Rishabh Pant and a 48-run partnership with KL Rahul to revive the Indian innings. He also completed his fifth Test fifty before losing his wicket to Nahid Rana. India kept on losing wickets at regular intervals before Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin's century stand brought them back into the game.
