PCB RESTRUCTURES WOMEN'S SELECTION COMMITTEE AFTER 0-3 SERIES MAULING TO WEST INDIES

NEW DELHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has restructured its national selection committee for women's cricket following the home side's 3-0 defeat to West Indies in the ICC women's league series in Karachi.

West Indies' all-rounder Healy Matthews played a pivotal role in her team's victory, scoring 140 and 142 in the first and third ODIs at the National Stadium this month.

According to the PCB, chairman Mohsin Naqvi has reconstituted the women's selection committee after the team's unsatisfactory performance at home. Men's national selectors, Abdul Razzaq and Asad Shafiq, along with former women international player, Batool Fatima, have been added to the committee. Asmavia Iqbal and Marina Iqbal have been retained from the previous panel.

Similar to the men's national selection committee structure, the coach and captain will also be part of the national women's selection committee. The committee will not have a chairman, and decisions will be made based on majority votes.

The newly formed selection committee's immediate task will be to select the Pakistan women's team for the upcoming tour of England, where they are scheduled to play three T20Is and three ICC Women's Championship 2022-25 fixtures from May 11 to 29.

Despite the recent loss to the West Indies, Pakistan currently holds the fifth position in the 10-team ICC Women Championship 2022-25. The top five teams from this championship, along with hosts India, will directly qualify for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, while the remaining teams will participate in a Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament.
