NEW DELHI: After their triumphant T20 World Cup campaign in the Caribbean, Team India is set to embark on their next challenge as they prepare to tour Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series commencing on July 6.
In the wake of the T20I retirements of senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, along with the resting of other key members from the World Cup squad, India will field a predominantly young team for the five T20Is and three ODIs against Zimbabwe.
Shubman Gill has been appointed as the captain of the Men in Blue for this series.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube will join the squad following their World Cup duties in the West Indies. They will be accompanied by Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan, who served as the travelling reserves for India's T20 World Cup squad.
The series also marks the maiden senior national call-up for promising IPL talents Abhishek Sharma, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, and Tushar Deshpande. Initially named in the squad, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy was withdrawn due to an injury, with the BCCI selecting Dube as his replacement.
As Rahul Dravid steps down from his role as head coach, VVS Laxman will accompany the team to Zimbabwe as the interim replacement. The Harare Sports Club in Harare will host all the matches of the series.
