'IF I GET 1S AND 2S...': JAKE FRASER-MCGURK AFTER BOUNDARY-LADEN 27-BALL 84 BLITZKRIEG

NEW DELHI: Young Jake Fraser-McGurk showcased his formidable big-hitting skills in the scorching Delhi heat, smashing a blazing 84 off just 27 balls. His explosive innings propelled Delhi Capitals to a commanding total of 257 for four against the Mumbai Indians in an IPL clash on Saturday.

In his second opening appearance for DC this season, 22-year-old Fraser-McGurk matched his own record for the fastest fifty of the season, reaching the milestone in just 15 balls after DC was put in to bat by MI.

Delhi also set a new record for their highest-ever powerplay score in IPL history as they amassed 92 without any loss in the first six overs.

Fraser-McGurk prefers focusing on boundaries and only opts for singles or twos in case of mishits or when facing the last ball of an over in an attempt to retain the strike.

"My role is to go out there and score as many as possible in the first six. If I go on [after that], I go on. If I get 1s and 2s, it's only either because I've mishit it or maybe it's the last ball of the over [laughs]," Fraser-McGurk said during the mid innings break.

"I feel like [hard-hitting ability] is something I've always had. It's about developing a nice base, being as still as possible and swing big. There's a lot of timing involved, it's about having a nice, strong core and upper body," he added.

With McGurk in the middle, it was raining boundaries and sixes at the rather small Arun Jaitley Stadium. He hit 11 fours and six maximums which is more than 95 percent of runs (80 runs) coming in boundaries.
