TESLA DISMISSES 2 SENIOR EXECUTIVES, HUNDREDS MORE TO BE LAID OFF: REPORT
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has terminated two senior executives and is set to lay off hundreds more employees amid concerns over declining sales and the pace of previous job cuts, reported The Information.Â
Rebecca Tinucci, who served as senior director of Tesla's Supercharger business, and Daniel Ho, head of the new vehicles program, will depart from the company on Tuesday morning, as per the report.
Additionally, Musk plans to dismiss all employees under Tinucci and Ho, including approximately 500 individuals in the Supercharger group. The fate of Ho's team members was not explicitly mentioned.
The report also stated that Tesla's public policy team, previously overseen by Rohan Patel, will be disbanded.
"Hopefully these actions are making it clear that we need to be absolutely hard core about headcount and cost reduction," Musk wrote in the email to the senior managers, as per the report.
"While some on exec staff are taking this seriously, most are not yet doing so," he added.Â
Ho, who joined Tesla in 2013, previously served as a program manager for the development of models such as the Model S, 3, and Y before assuming responsibility for all new vehicles. Tinucci, on the other hand, joined Tesla in 2018 as a senior product manager.
The departures of two other senior leaders, Patel and battery development chief Drew Baglino, were announced earlier this month.
Tesla had also initiated layoffs affecting over 10% of its workforce.
Facing a decline in sales and heightened competition, Tesla reported a decrease in quarterly revenue for the first time since 2020 in its recent earnings report.
Musk's recent visit to Beijing saw progress in the rollout of Tesla's advanced driver-assistance package in China, amidst the ongoing EV price war in the region.
This trip followed his cancellation of a planned visit to India, where Tesla has been eager to establish operations, citing "very heavy Tesla obligations."
