RUSSIA SAYS 4 LONG-RANGE MISSILES SHOT DOWN IN NIGHT ATTACK | SUPPLIED BY US TO UKRAINE

Moscow: On Saturday, Russia said that it had downed four US-made ATACMS long-range missiles recently supplied by the US to Ukraine. The missiles were shot down over the Moscow-annexed Crimean peninsula.

The defence ministry said that it had "foiled" the night attack. However, it did not mention if the falling debris had caused any damage.

In April, the United States confirmed the sending of these missiles to Ukraine. Ukraine had reportedly been pressing for the missiles to strike targets well beyond the front line.

Ukraine used the US ATACMS missiles against Russia for the first time in October. However, the recently supplied missiles have a farther range of up to 300 kilometres (190 miles).

Russia insists that these missiles will not fundamentally affect the outcome of the conflict.

Ukrainian forces have been suffering from ammunition shortages, partly because of months-long delays in US deliveries, which were lifted last month after the US Congress finally approved an aid package.
