HEZBOLLAH CLAIMS 5 MORE MEMBERS KILLED IN ELECTRONIC DEVICE ATTACKS: REPORT

Hezbollah on Thursday claimed that the communication devices attack allegedly orchestrated by Israel has claimed the lives of five more of its members, according to a report by Times of Israel.

A day after pagers exploded in Lebanon, walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah members detonated on Wednesday evening, killing 20 people and injuring 450 others.

However, it is not clear whether the five members were killed in the pager attack or the walkie-talkie explosion.

Meanwhile, Israeli officials have not commented on both the blasts, but security sources said Israel's spy agency Mossad was responsible. One Hezbollah official said the episode was the biggest security breach in the group's history.

After a second wave of attack, Lebanon's Prime Minister Najib Mikati called on the United Nations to oppose Israel's "technological war."

The US, which denied any involvement in the blasts, said it was pursuing intensive diplomacy to avert an escalation of the conflict. A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Israel told Washington on Tuesday it was going to do something in Lebanon. But Israel did not provide details and the operation itself was a surprise to Washington, the official said.

Hezbollah, which has pledged to strike back against Israel, announced on Wednesday that it launched rocket attacks on Israeli artillery positions. This marks the group's first assault on its longtime adversary since the explosions. The Israeli military reported no damage or casualties from the attack.
