DEATH TOLL FROM KENYA FLOODS RISES TO 228

The death toll from floods and other effects of Kenya's severe rains has grown to 228, the interior ministry announced on Sunday.

The severe rains that have caused extensive floods and landslides across the country in recent weeks are expected to intensify in May.

According to the ministry, more flooding is "expected in low-lying areas, riparian areas, and urban areas, while landslides/mudslides may occur in areas with steep slopes, escarpments, and ravines."

Floods have devastated homes, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure throughout East Africa's greatest economy.

The government reported that 212,630 people had been displaced and at least 164 individuals had been wounded as a result of the bad weather.
