SHAHID AFRIDI RELISHES BECOMING 'YOUNGEST GRANDFATHER' AS SHAHEEN WELCOMES SON

Shahid Afridi acknowledged all the congratulatory messages which he has been receiving on becoming the "youngest grandfather". Pakistan's star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi became the father of a baby boy on August 24, Saturday. Shaheen and his wife Ansha Afridi, one of the daughters of Shahid, announced the arrival of their firstborn son, whom they named Ali Yar. Since Shahid Afridi's daughter gave birth to a baby boy, the 47-year-old became a grandfather. Shaheen took to his social media to announce the birth of their first child and soon wishes started pouring in. The former Pakistan cricketer, Shahid, was overwhelmed with all the kind wishes.

"Have been receiving messages full of love from all our friends on becoming the youngest grandfather in the world of cricket. My family and I thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for joining us in our happiness," Afridi wrote on X. Earlier, Jason Gillespie, the Pakistan red-ball coach, had said that Shaheen could miss the Test series against Bangladesh for his childbirth. However, he took part in the ongoing Rawalpindi Test.

Shahid Afridi's post

In fact, Arshad Nadeem who recently won a gold medal for Pakistan in the men's javelin throw at Paris Olympics 2024 also congratulated Shahid Afridi on becoming a grandfather. Earlier this year, in February, Shaheen married Ansha in a private nikah ceremony after initially getting engaged back in 2021.

Shahid Afridi's special celebration

The fast bowler celebrated the birth of his first child with a unique celebration during the opening Test match against Bangladesh. He usually celebrates after taking a wicket by raising his arms in the air. However, this time, he took out the cradling celebration after dismissing Hasan Mahmud. He later got the wicket of Mehidy Hasan Miraz to finish with decent figures of 30-3-88-2.
