EX-TWITTER EMPLOYEE WHO SLEPT ON FLOOR AND GOT FIRED BY ELON MUSK GETS TOP JOB AT META
Esther Crawford, a former high-ranking executive at Twitter (now known as X), has announced her new position at Meta through an Instagram post. Crawford, who became popular for a viral photo showing her sleeping on the floor at Twitter's office to meet deadlines, has now secured a Director of Product role at Meta, the parent company of Facebook.
"Although I considered a lot of great options, Meta was my top choice because I am obsessed with how humans connect through technology â and no other company has a bigger scale of impact in that space than Meta, which connects nearly 4B people (half of humanity)," he wrote.
The news of the new job role comes more than a year after she was laid off at Twitter. She initially joined Twitter in 2020 following the acquisition of her video chat startup, Squad. Later, Crawford was regarded as one of Musk's top lieutenants.
During her tenure at Twitter, Crawford took leadership of Twitter Blue, the platform's subscription service, and publicly aligned herself with Musk's rigorous work ethos. In a notable incident in November 2022, she shared a photo of herself asleep on the office floor, highlighting the team's commitment to meeting deadlines. But, she was fired by Musk days after her photo went viral on social media.Â
Despite her departure from Twitter subsequent to her dismissal by Musk, Crawford's track record of dedication and innovation seems to have paved the way for her new role at Meta. Expressing admiration for Meta's organisational culture and CEO Mark Zuckerberg's vision, Crawford cited the company's streamlined operations and emphasis on efficiency as compelling factors in her decision to join.
"It is definitely a special time to be here because the company is in a unique position to create the next gen of social experiences while democratizing free access to AI within the family of apps, and through what developers build on top of Llama 3 (the latest open-source LLM)," she wrote.Â
