UP SETS RECORD IN METRO INFRASTRUCTURE: BECOMES STATE WITH METRO IN MOST NUMBER OF CITIES

Lucknow: The mantra of 'Dreams coming true...' of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) seems to be on the path of success as under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, UP is writing a new story of development. Now, one more chapter has been added to this development journey of the state as UP Uttar Pradesh has become the state with maximum cities having metro facility. The industrial units and emerging industries running in the state are a testimony to the fact that Uttar Pradesh is now moving towards becoming developed and self-reliant.

Unprecedented work is being done in every field, from law and order to transport system. Talking about transportation, a network of airports have been laid to improve air connectivity in the state, expressways for road connectivity and metro networks have been laid in cities to improve the modes of daily mobility. With this, Uttar Pradesh has made an incomparable record in the field of metro connectivity.

Cities With Metro Services In UP

Apart from the capital city Lucknow, Metro is operating successfully in Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida, and Kanpur. Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) is also constructing Agra Metro and Meerut Metro and plans for Varanasi Metro, Prayagraj Metro, Gorakhpur Metro and Bareilly Metro are also under consideration. Moreover, UPMRC does not operate Noida metro as it is maintained by Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC). Similarly, the operation of Meerut Metro and Delhi-Meerut RRTS is also not with UPMRC but with the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).

Metro From Greater Noida West To Jewar Airport

Noida Metro running in UP is also counted among the largest metro operating network. Its construction has also been done in two phases. The first phase (from Delta-1 to Sector 51) and the second phase (from Sector-51 to Knowledge Park-5). A plan has also been made to connect Greater Noida West Metro with Jewar, Asia's largest airport. As per the information, there is a plan under consideration to run Namo Bharat Train (Rapid Rail) to Jewar Airport, connecting Greater Noida and Greater Noida West, which will be connected to Delhi-Meerut RRTS. Keeping in view the convenience of the people, discussions are ongoing on the route.

Connectivity Of Jewar Airport To Ghaziabad Rapid Rail Metro

There is also a plan to provide connectivity from Ghaziabad station of Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) to Jewar Airport which is being built in Noida. Keeping in mind the local connectivity, now metro will also run on this route under Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS). This 72.2 km stretch will be built from Noida Airport to Ghaziabad. Earlier, only 12 stations were proposed on this track, but now it has been increased to 25. It is worth noting that the Metro will stop at all 25 stations and the Rapid Rail will stop at only 11 stations.

Metro To Run In Agra Soon

Metro service is also going to start soon in Agra, the fourth largest city of the state. Agra Metro is an under-construction rapid transit network whose DPR was submitted in 2014 and approved by the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet in 2015. Agra Metro consists of two metro lines, with a total length of 29.65 kilometers (18.42 mi). In the first phase, there will be 14 metro stations on the Yellow Line from Sikandra to Taj East Gate. In the second phase, there will be 15 metro stations on the Blue Line from Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar. It is pertinent to note that recently, the Yogi government had announced a budget of Rs 346 crore for the Agra Metro project in the general budget.

Second Phase Of Kanpur Metro Nearly Ready

The first phase of metro has started in Kanpur but some construction work is still left in the second phase. Kanpur Metro was inaugurated on December 28, 2021 and the work is underway to run the metro here in two phases. 23 stations are there in the first phase and eight in the second phase. The Kanpur Metro Project is being built with a cost of Rs 13,721 crore.

Expansion Of Lucknow Metro

Lucknow Metro is the seventh longest operational metro network in India. Lucknow Metro covers a distance of 22.87 km with 22 stations. Earlier this year, the state government decided to expand Lucknow Metro for the convenience of people. Now, there will be a new phase from Charbagh to Basant Kunj via Chowk.
