TELANGANA WEATHER: HEAVY TO VERY HEAVY RAIN LIKELY IN THESE DISTRICTS ON SEPT 8; IMD ISSUES ALERT

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for five districts in Telangana for Sunday, September 8, warning of heavy to very heavy rain. These districts include Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu and Bhadradri Kothagudem. 

The met agency also issued a yellow alert, forecasting heavy rain, has been issued for six other districts, including Adilabad, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Khammam, Warangal and Hanamkonda. According to a weather bulletin released on Saturday, isolated places in these districts are expected to experience significant rain on September 8. 

The forecast for Hyderabad predicts a generally cloudy sky over the next 24 hours, with light to moderate rain likely on Sunday. The IMD also added that thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are very likely to occur at isolated places in all districts across Telangana on Sunday.

In related news, the Telangana government on Saturday stated that 29 people died due to the recent heavy rains and floods in the state. State Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari informed that out of the state's 33 districts, 29 have been declared flood-hit based on rainfall recorded between August 31 and September 3. She added that the  government has released Rs 3 crore to each flood-affected district to facilitate relief efforts.

Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari also directed district Collectors to submit detailed reports on the damages caused by the floods by Monday afternoon. She also mentioned that ex-gratia payments will be provided to the families of the deceased. A meeting, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, is scheduled for Monday to discuss further relief and rehabilitation measures.
