RAJASTHAN BUREAUCRAT DIES AFTER SURGERY, DOCTORS ACCUSED OF NEGLIGENCE
An inquiry has been ordered after Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer Priyanka Bishnoi died two weeks after undergoing surgery at a hospital in Jodhpur. The doctors who performed the surgery have been accused of medical negligence.
Bishnoi, a 2016 batch RAS officer who was serving as an Assistant Collector in Jodhpur, saw her condition worsen during treatment at Vasundhara Hospital. Her family transferred her to SIMS Hospital in Ahmedabad, where she died on Wednesday night. Her death has led to an outpouring of grief on social media, with many demanding actions against those responsible.
Following her death, District Collector Gaurav Agarwal instructed the Principal of Dr SN Medical College to investigate the claims against the private hospital. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed his condolences, while Bishnoi community leader Devendra Budhia has urged the Chief Minister to initiate a CBI investigation into the matter.
Acting on Agarwal's instructions, Dr Bharati Saraswat, Principal of Dr SN Medical College, formed a five-member team of doctors to probe the case.
Amid the allegations of medical negligence, Dr Sanjay Makwana, director of Vasundhara Hospital, responded to the matter. He mentioned that after her surgery on September 5, Priyanka was stable throughout the evening and night, but by the morning, she began experiencing irritability.
Blood tests revealed an electrolyte imbalance, and she was transferred to the ICU for further treatment. Despite this, her irritability continued. A series of tests, including an abdominal scan and an echocardiogram, were conducted, Dr Makwana explained.
A neurologist was also consulted to determine the cause of her discomfort. Eventually, the family requested her transfer to Ahmedabad for further treatment. When she arrived there, a CT scan revealed multiple brain haemorrhages, which were attributed to an arteriovenous malformation (AVM), a congenital condition.
