PUNE: HEAVY RAIN RAISES FLOOD CONCERNS AS KHADAKWASLA DAM OVERFLOWS, RIVERSIDE RESIDENTS ALERTED

Pune Rains:  The catchment regions of all four dams in the Khadakwasla Dam Chain Project are once again receiving rain after it subsided for the past few days. Water from the Khadakwasla Dam is beginning to flow into the Mutha River basin as a result of the rain received yesterday night and this morning. As a result, Pune locals are worried about possible floods.

The four dams that provide Pune with water—Temghar, Varasgaon, Panshet, and Khadakwasla—are all full. At the moment, 28.34 TMC, or 97.18 percent of their capacity, is held in these dams. By Saturday morning, the Temghar dam area had received 48 mm of rain, the Varasgaon and Panshet dam areas had received 24 mm apiece, and the Khadakwasla dam area had received 8 mm.

Consequently, water was released from the Varasgaon Dam at a rate of 862 cusecs and the Panshet Dam at a rate of 849 cusecs at 10 AM.
