PUNE DRY DAY: LIQUOR SALES BANNED ON SEVERAL DAYS IN SEPTEMBER STARTING TODAY | CHECK DATES
Pune Ganeshotsav News: Starting today, the festivities of Ganeshotsav will begin across Maharashtra, including Pune. In response to this celebration, the Maharashtra State Excise Department has announced a liquor ban in Pune District for specific days.
According to a Punekar news report, the ban will be in effect on September 7, the first day of Ganeshotsav, known as Ganesh Chaturthi. On this day, all alcohol sales will be prohibited throughout Pune District. Additionally, another ban will be enforced on Anant Chaturdashi, September 17. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) area will also observe a liquor ban on September 18 due to the Visarjan processions, which will continue until the celebrations conclude.

Furthermore, complete liquor bans will be implemented on the 5th and 7th days of the festival, which fall on September 11 and 13, in areas where the immersion ceremonies (Visarjan) take place. From September 7 to September 18, there will be a complete ban on alcohol sales in the jurisdictions of the Khadak, Vishrambaug and Faraskhana Police Stations under the Pune City Police Commissionerate.
Pune District Collector Dr Suhas Diwase has issued directives to the police commissioners of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, as well as the Superintendent of Police for Pune Rural. The excise department's commissioner and divisional deputy commissioner have also been informed. Under Section 142(2) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949, these officials have the authority to close establishments if there is a potential threat of riots or unlawful gatherings. They can enforce such closures as long as necessary to ensure public safety.
