NO MODI WAVE, SAYS BJP'S NAVNEET RANA; OPPOSITION CALLS IT THE TRUTH

After a video of BJP's Lok Sabha candidate from Amravati Navneet Rana claiming there was "no Modi wave" went viral, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) said she was speaking the truth, and it reflected the mood of the voters on the ground.

Navneet Rana made the purported remark while addressing a rally in her Amravati constituency on Monday.

"We will have to fight this election as if it were a gram panchayat election. We will have to bring all the voters to the booth by 12 noon and tell them to vote. Don't remain under the illusion that there is a Modi wave. In 2019 also, there was a Modi wave. They had all the resources at their disposal. But still I won as an independent candidate," Rana said.

Rana had won the Amravati seat in 2019 as an independent candidate with backing from the undivided NCP.

As a video of the speech went viral, the NCP (Sharad Pawar) and the Shiv Sena (UBT) said there was panic in the BJP ranks. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said the Opposition alliance would win all 48 seats in Maharashtra.

"Forget about the Modi wave. Whether Modi will be able to win his seat is also a question. Our party chief Uddhav Thackeray has already said the BJP will get only 45 seats all over the country... Even the BJP's own candidates are already speaking the truth and that too openly and loud and clear," he said.

NCP (SP) spokesperson Mahesh Tapase said Rana was speaking the truth and that is why BJP is inducting leaders from other parties.

"She (Rana) and other BJP candidates have understood this fact after campaigning on the ground. The BJP too knows there is no Modi wave. This is reflected in the way the party has gone all-out roping in one Opposition leader after the other. It has imported even those leaders whom it has accused of corruption. The BJP had no alternative, because it saw in those leaders the potential to win elections," the NCP leader said.

Amid the controversy, Navneet Rana issued a clarification, saying the opposition was using her edited speech to build a false narrative.

"People know the work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. There was a Modi wave, there is a Modi wave and there will be a Modi wave. We are taking the work and promises of PM Modi to voters and asking for votes. The target of over 400 seats will be achieved this time," she said.
