NISHAN SINGH, FORMER HARYANA JJP CHIEF, MOVES TO CONGRESS POST ALLIANCE SPLIT WITH BJP

Nishan Singh, the former Haryana president of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) joined the Congress on Monday.

The former Tohana MLA had announced quitting the JJP on April 8 and sent his resignation letter to the party’s national president Ajay Chautala the next day, after the party ended its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana.

Nishan, a former MLA representing the Tohana segment in Fatehabad, held a prominent position as the chief of the JJP, earning the confidence of top party officials.

Initially elected from the Tohana assembly segment in 2000 on the Indian National Lok Dal’s (INLD) ticket, he faced defeats in the subsequent polls of 2005, 2009, and 2014.

In the 2019 elections, the JJP nominated Congress' Devender Singh Babli, who secured victory over then BJP state chief Subhash Barala. Following the BJP's decision to sever ties with the JJP, several of its leaders have resigned from the party.
