KALPANA SOREN, WIFE OF EX-JHARKHAND CM HEMANT SOREN, TO CONTEST BYPOLL FROM GANDEY ASSEMBLY SEAT

New Delhi: Days after former Jharkhand CM and the leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Hemant Soren was jailed, the party has now declared his wife, Kalpana Soren the candidate for the assembly bypoll for the Gandey seat, in Girdih district. The seat became vacant after JMM MLA Sarfaraz Ahmad resigned.

Kalpana Soren holds an MTech as well as MBA degrees. She completed her schooling in Baripada, located in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district. She formally joined politics on JMM's 51st foundation day celebration in Giridih district on March 4, reported Times of India.

She came to limelight after her husband, Hemant Soren was jailed in an alleged money laundering case related to an alleged land scam on January 31 by the Enforcement Directorate. She had alleged that a conspiracy was hatched by opponents since the formation of the Hemant Soren-led coalition government in 2019.

Kalpana had stated that Jharkhand would give a befitting reply to the forces responsible for her husband's imprisonment.

The bypoll for the Gandey assembly seat is set to take place on May 20, coinciding with the parliamentary elections in the state.
