HEAT WAVE ALERTS IN SEVERAL PARTS OF INDIA AS NORTHEAST GETS RAIN

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heat wave to severe heat wave conditions in parts of West Bengal and Odisha over the next five days. Heat wave conditions are also likely to prevail over Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, Konkan, parts of Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana, west Uttar Pradesh and coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam in the upcoming five days.

The weather department has also issued a heatwave alert for Maharashtra's Thane, Raigad districts and parts of Mumbai from April 27 to 29.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh is likely to receive heavy rainfall on Wednesday and the upcoming weekend. Northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall or snowfall with thunderstorm and lightning, the IMD said in a press release.

Under the influence of a fresh western disturbance, northwestern region including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh is likely to record light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning in the upcoming five days. Punjab and Haryana are likely to witness hailstorm on Friday and Saturday.

The temperature in parts of Delhi dropped by as much as 11 degree Celsius on Tuesday evening after rain lashed the capital. The relief, though, was short-lived with temperatures expected to rise again, starting Wednesday.

Since mid-April, heat wave conditions have been prevailing over Odisha and parts of West Bengal. On Tuesday, the region witnessed heat wave to severe heat wave conditions in isolated pockets with mercury hitting between 40 and 42 degree Celsius. The maximum temperatures recorded on Tuesday were in the range of 43-44 degree Celsius over several parts of Rayalaseema and isolated pockets over south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and north Tamil Nadu.
