COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY SUSPENDS STUDENTS DEFYING ORDERS AGAINST ENCAMPMENT? VP'S MESSAGE CONFUSES PROTESTERS

Did Columbia University suspend any student protester for defying the varsity's deadline to vacate the encampment? The message by the Vice President for Communications and a spokesperson for the Ivy League school left many students confused. Ben Chang came up with a final warning of suspension after some pro-Palestine demonstrators refused to stick to the orders to vacate by 2 pm, per local time.

"We have begun suspending students," remarked Chang while emphasising the word suspension multiple times, leaving students in a state of confusion. The question that remains is - did the university administration actually suspend any student protesters? The VP communications' message came three hours after the deadline was passed.

The administration of Columbia University has finally begun the suspension of those who defied the orders. No student was either named or suspended by the varsity till the time this report was published. Local media reports based on students' testimonials confirmed that no one was actually suspended today after the statement issued to the press two hours ago.

Earlier, organisers of the protest were going around asking people if they'd been suspended and coming up empty. Several student protesters made encampments on the Columbia University campus in New York replicating it to Gaza.

The university had told student demonstrators to vacate the scene or else “be suspended pending further investigation” and barred from completing the spring semester.
