CHOPPER SCHEDULED TO PICK UP SHIV SENA (UBT) LEADER CRASHES, PILOT SURVIVES

The pilot of a helicopter was injured after it tilted during landing in Maharashtra's Raigad district on Friday.

According to news agency PTI, the chopper was scheduled to pick Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare for a public rally in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

The incident happened at around 9.30 am when the pilot of the chopper tried to land it on a makeshift helipad at Mahuhad. The helicopter tilted, which resulted in juries to the pilot.

A video of the incident showed that the chopper lost its control during landing and seemed to swerve, wobble, lose balance and then crash with a loud sound in a cloud of dust on an open ground.

The rotor blades of the chopper also got damaged in the incident, news agency PTI reported, citing a police official.

After the incident, the police and emergency team officers reached the spot, rescued the pilot and launched a probe into the incident.

The Raigad Lok Sabha seat will go into polls on May 7 in the third phase.
