BENGAL: TMC'S MUKUL ROY INJURED AFTER FALL AT HOME, HOSPITALISED IN CRITICAL CONDITION

Trinamool Congress senior leader Mukul Roy was rushed to hospital on Wednesday evening after he fell in a bathroom of his house in West Bengal’s Kolkata and lost consciousness. Roy has received an injury on his head and remains critical, an official of the medical establishment where the TMC leader was admitted, said on Thursday.

“He is somewhat stable but critical. The hospital authorities have constituted a team of doctors to monitor him round the clock,” news agency PTI reported citing the official.

He further informed that the former Railway minister, who has been suffering from neurological ailments, also vomited before he lost consciousness.

"Necessary medical tests have been done and we are waiting for the reports to decide on the next course of treatment," he added.

The Trinamool leader’s son Subhrangshu Roy also confirmed the news.

"Baba fell while going to the bathroom at home. He had a head injury. He vomited and fell unconscious. We took him to the hospital." Subhrangshu Roy told PTI.

Roy, who is one of the founding members of the Trinamool Congress, is reportedly suffering from dementia and Parkinson’s disease.

He moved to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2017 and won from Krishnanagar Uttar constituency in the 2021 Assembly polls.

However, soon after the BJP lost in the 2021 Assembly election in Bengal, Roy returned to the Trinamool, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee welcoming him back and saying that he would “play the same role” in the party as before.

Roy also hailed Mamata as the “leader of India” and said, “The situation is such in Bengal that no one will continue in the BJP.”

But on April 17, 2023, Roy was reported “missing” by his son Subhranshu.

The same evening, he was seen in Delhi, where he claimed that he was still with the BJP and called for “change” in the upcoming panchayat elections in West Bengal.
