ATISHI'S CABINET TO RETAIN 4 MINISTERS, ONE NEW FACE TO BE INDUCTED; DELHI CM-DESIGNATE OATH ON SEPT 21

Delhi's new Chief Minister-designate Atishi will take oath on September 21 along with her new cabinet which has retained four ministers from Arvind Kejriwal's team.

However, there is going to be one new addition to Atishi's cabinet, Mukesh Ahlawat.

Earlier this week Kejriwal officially tendered his resignation to LG VK Saxena following which Atishi staked claim to form the government in the national capital.

The new chief minister will prove a majority of her government in the Delhi Assembly and its session has been called by the ruling AAP dispensation on September 26-27.

The assembly's term ends on February 23 next year and elections are expected to be held sometime in early February.

Who are the ministers who have been retained?

The ministers who have been retained in Atishi's cabinet are:

  • Saurabh Bharadwaj (Minister of Health)
  • Gopal Rai (Minister of Environment)
  • Kailash Gehlot (Minister of Transport)
  • Imran Hussain

Who is Mukesh Ahlawat?

An MLA from Delhi's Sultan Pur Majra Assembly constituency, Ahlawat is a businessman by profession.

He contested the elections for the first time in 2020 and won his seat with an AAP ticket in his first try.

Ahlawat is regarded as a significant Dalit representative for AAP in North West Delhi. His name was under consideration for the North West Delhi seat during the Lok Sabha elections, but the seat ultimately went to Congress as part of the INDIA bloc's seat-sharing agreement.
