ASSAM RIFLES SEIZE ARMS, AMMUNITION IN NAGALAND NEAR INDO-MYANMAR BORDER

New Delhi: A huge quantity of arms and ammunition, including 11 mortar tubes, 10 pistols, and 198 hand-held radio sets were recovered Monday by Assam Rifles near the Indo-Myanmar border in Mon district of Nagaland, a press statement said.

A satellite phone, a bike, and a car were also seized during the search operation, which began early morning. The suspect apprehended in the case was handed over to the Nagaland Police.

The recovery of the heavy-calibre, military-grade weapons close to the border is a significant success in the border sealing operations under way by Assam Rifles. It’s also a setback to the designs of unscrupulous elements who had been trying to disturb the peace in the region, said the press statement, adding that the recovery of the weapons and radio sets indicates the extent of damage that could have been caused.

The alert and dedication of the Assam Rifles’ soldiers have ensured the thwarting of plans to create a serious security situation in the region from the perspective of national security, added the press statement.
