ARVINDER LOVELY SAYS HE QUIT CONGRESS POST BUT 'WAS SHOWN' AS IF HE LEFT PARTY

Arvinder Singh Lovely, who recently resigned as chief of the Congress' Delhi unit, on Monday expressed his disappointment within the party ranks and said that he was not able to work under the current system.

When asked about the reason behind his sudden resignation from the post weeks ahead of Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, Lovely said, "It was not an immediate decision. I was disturbed for quite some time. However, what hurts me the most is that I have quit from the post of Delhi Congress President, but it is shown as if I have resigned from the party".

"How can I continue when I feel that I am not able to do justice to my post? How can I continue working as Delhi Congress chief when I am not able to reply to the questions of my workers? I haven't questioned any leader or strategy of the party. I am just not able to work in the current system of the party. You appoint someone else as Delhi Congress President and I will continue to work as a leader," Lovely said while speaking exclusively to India Today TV.

Furthermore, Arvinder Singh Lovely also expressed his displeasure after his resignation letter was leaked in the media and, to his surprise, it was accepted by the Congress high command within hours.

"I wrote a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. I did not give that letter to anyone else, but it got leaked into the media. A letter gets leaked before it reaches the right place and the decision is taken within hours. The party will have to deliberate what is happening. On one hand, they say I resigned in a jiffy, and on the other hand, they accepted it within 2 hours," he said.

Notably, Arvinder Singh Lovely had rejected the claims that he resigned from his post due to unhappiness over ticket distribution. The Congress leader had also asserted that he is not joining any other political party.

However, in his resignation to Kharge, Lovely was critical of Kanhaiya Kumar, the party candidate from North East Delhi, and North West Delhi nominee Udit Raj, and said they are total strangers to the Delhi Congress and party policies.

"Some people are spreading misinformation that I was upset over ticket (distribution). It is not like that. You all know that I introduced the candidates by holding a press conference three days ago," Lovely had said during a press conference.
