APPLE IS GIVING IPHONES IN INDIA SOME MASSIVE INDIA-CENTRIC UPDATES IN THE UPCOMING IOS 18

Apple has announced some exciting India-centric updates for iPhones with the upcoming release of iOS 18. The new operating system, introduced at the WWDC 2024 event, promises to bring a host of new features to all iPhone users, but there are some special additions specifically designed for Indian users.

One of the standout features is the support for numerals in 12 different Indian languages. With iOS 18, users will be able to customize their contact posters and lock screens using numerals from languages such as Arabic, Arabic Indic, Bangla, Devanagari, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Kannada, Malayalam, Meitei, Odia, Ol Chiki, and Telugu. This allows for a more personalized and culturally relevant experience.

In addition to numeral support, iOS 18 will include live voicemail transcription for Indian English. This means that iPhones can transcribe voicemails in real time, making it easier for users to understand their messages. Alongside this, there will be support for live caller ID, which will help users identify incoming calls more easily.

Apple has also made improvements for those using dual SIM cards. Since the iPhone 11, iPhones have supported dual SIM cards with one physical SIM slot and an eSIM. With iOS 18, Apple introduces a dedicated SIM switch button within the redesigned control centre. This new feature allows users to switch between two phone numbers quickly and conveniently, enhancing the dual SIM experience.

Siri, Apple's virtual assistant, is also getting an upgrade. On iOS 18, Siri will better understand Indian English mixed with local languages such as Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu. This makes interactions with Siri more natural and effective for Indian users.

Additionally, the new translate app now supports Hindi and can perform system-wide translation, including in the Safari web browser and the Notes app, making it easier for users to navigate and communicate in their preferred language.

Apple has not stopped there. iOS 18 will also feature support for alphabetical layouts for 11 Indian languages, including Bangla, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. This will help users type and organize their content more efficiently. Furthermore, there will be enhanced language search capabilities in Assamese, Bangla, Devanagari, and Gujarati, making it easier for users to find what they are looking for.

iOS 18 is set to roll out later this year, and iPhone users in India can look forward to a more personalized, convenient, and culturally relevant experience with their devices. Whether it’s through improved language support, better dual SIM management, or enhanced voice interaction, Apple is making significant strides to cater to the Indian market.
