Jio, Vi, Airtel tariff hike COMPARED: Mobile users on Friday received rather depressing news that would cost heavy on their pockets. All the three leading telecom companies of the country – Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea – have announced a tariff hike on their mobile recharge plans.

Both Vodafone Idea and Airtel followed Jio in taking the step as the Mukesh Ambani-led telecom giant was the first to make the announcement. While the increase in Jio and Bharti Airtel’s tariffs will come into effect from July 3, the changes in Vi data plans will become effective a day later on July 4.

Making the announcement, Vi said that it is planning significant investments over the next few quarters to further enhance the 4G experience as well as launch of 5G services. Bharti Airtel, on the other hand, stated that they have ensured that there is a very modest price increase (less than 70p per day) on the entry level plans.

Reliance Jio, in a statement, noted that the introduction of new plans is a step in the direction of furthering industry innovation and driving sustainable growth through investments in 5G and AI technology. "Jio will always put our country and customer first and will continue to invest for India," it added.

Jio, Vi, Airtel Tariff Hike COMPARED

ET NOW Digital looked at the tariff increases announced by the 3 telecom giants and did a comparison of their one-month (28 days) plan offering 1 GB data per day. Among the three, Ambani-led Jio has emerged as the company offering the cheapest plans.

Vi 28-day Plan – 1GB/Day, Unlimited Calling, 100 SMS/Day - Rs 299

Airtel 28-day Plan – 1GB/Day, Unlimited Calling, 100 SMS/Day - Rs 299

Jio 28-day Plan – 1GB/Day, Unlimited Calling, 100 SMS/Day - Rs 249

Moreover, the same plan offering 1.5 GB/Day for 56 days will now be priced at Rs 579 by all the three telcos. Vi’s annual plan (for 365 days) will now cost Rs 3499, Airtel’s will cost Rs 3599 while Jio’s Rs 3599. However, Vi is offering 1.5 GB/Day in its annual plan, Airtel is offering 2 GB/Day while Jio is giving 2.5GB/Day.

New Jio Offerings

Jio Platforms Limited also introduced two new applications - JioSafe and JioTranslate - on Friday. JioSafe is a quantum-secure communication app for calling, messaging, file transfer and more (priced at Rs 199 per month). JioTranslate is an AI-powered multi-lingual communication app for translating voice call, voice message, text and image (priced at Rs 99 per month).

Jio users will get both these applications (worth Rs 298/month) absolutely free for a year, the company announced.
