ONEPLUS 8 AND 8 PRO USERS GET FINAL SOFTWARE UPDATE: TIME TO BUY A NEW PHONE?

OnePlus has released the OxygenOS 13 update for two smartphones introduced in 2020. The OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro have reached the end of their life cycle after running the most recent OxygenOS 13.1.0.587 version. This indicates that both handsets have received their final update, and OnePlus will no longer provide software maintenance for these two smartphones.

For those who may not be aware, OnePlus fulfilled the four years of software support it pledged for these two devices with the release of the April Security update. This covers upgrades for the operating system for three years and Android for four years.

In India, the upgrade has already begun to roll out, and in the upcoming months, it is anticipated to reach further areas. In addition, the April Security patch is the only thing included in the update.

“As you might have been aware, with the release of OxygenOS 13.1.0.587, we’ve officially fulfilled our lifecycle maintenance promise for the OnePlus 8/8Pro. It was quite a memorable journey and we’d love to extend our sincere gratitude to all of you for the tremendous support along the way,” an official statement reads as per India Today. “During the last four years, we’ve come a long way together hand-in-hand,” the statement adds.

The Over-The-Air (OTA) update is being sent out incrementally, according to OnePlus, which means that over the next few days, it will gradually reach a larger audience after first reaching a smaller number of customers. By going to Settings > About device > OxygenOS > Check for updates, users can manually check for updates.

OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro Final Software Update: How Will It Impact Users?

Users of the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro will be impacted by this. Furthermore, since neither of the two phones will be receiving OS or security updates, they are now open to security risks and flaws that could jeopardise user data protection and the device’s overall security. It is recommended that users switch to a different device that is supported by the manufacturer and has an operating system upgrade.
