APPLE LET LOOSE EVENT ON MAY 7: NEW IPAD LINEUP EXPECTED TO FEATURE OLED DISPLAY, M3 CHIP AND MORE

Apple is gearing up for its next major launch event of 2024, the "Let Loose" event scheduled for May 7. With the tagline and logo prominently featuring the Apple Pencil, anticipation is high that the event will be all around the next gen iPad models. With the new iPad Pro and likely the new iPad Air lineup Apple is expected to bring significant upgrades and enhancements to its tablet offerings. Let's take a detailed look at  what we can expect from the new iPad lineup based on rumours and leaks.

New iPad Pro Lineup

The spotlight of Apple's upcoming event will likely be on the upcoming iPad Pro lineup featuring the OLED screens across all models. Reportedly this shift from the LCD and mini-LED displays will deliver improved contrast and deeper black levels, creating a superior visual experience for users. The screen size may also see an increase, with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro potentially expanding to 13 inches, providing an even larger workspace for productivity and creativity.

In addition to the display enhancements, the new iPad Pro models are also speculated to feature a thinner design. The 11-inch model will measure just 5.1 mm in thickness, while the 12.9-inch model is said will be 5.0 mm thin. This reduction in size is made possible by the transition to OLED technology, which allows for a sleeker form factor.

Under the hood, the iPad Pro lineup is expected to receive a major performance boost with the incorporation of the M3 chip. This upgrade will likely result in faster processing speeds and increased efficiency.

Along with a redesigned iPad Pro, Apple is also expected to introduce a new Magic Keyboard, with its sturdier frame and aluminium build, aimed to enhance the user experience and make the iPad Pro more laptop-like. Additionally, a new Apple Pencil is reportedly in development, featuring Find My integration and magnetically swappable tips.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Apple will significantly hike the prices of its refreshed iPad Pro lineup, possibly with an increase of USD 160 from the earlier models. Some reports even suggest that the hike could be much steeper, with the 11-inch OLED iPad Pro debuting at USD 1,500 and its 12.9-inch counterpart starting at USD 1,800.

New iPad Air Lineup

Meanwhile, reports also suggest that Apple will launch a new iPad Air lineup, and we might see them arrive with the Pro models. Just like the Pro, the iPad Air models are also expected to receive significant updates, including the introduction of a 12.9-inch model alongside the existing 10.9-inch variant. This marks the first time the iPad Air will offer two display sizes, providing consumers with more options. The larger model is expected to feature a mini-LED screen similar to the previous generation of the iPad Pro, offering enhanced brightness and contrast.

Apple is also expected to bring some changes to the camera design, with the new iPad Air models possibly featuring a vertically oriented camera bump akin to older iPhone models. The repositioning of the front-facing FaceTime camera to the landscape side aligns with the user's view when using the device in landscape mode or with the Magic Keyboard.

The iPad Air lineup is anticipated to see a performance boost with the inclusion of either the M2 or M3 chip, offering improved speed and capabilities. However, Apple does not plan to release a new Magic Keyboard for the iPad Air lineup. This decision aims to differentiate the iPad Pro from the iPad Air further.

However, it is important to note that all this information is based on leaks and rumors. While these speculations paint a vivid picture of what to expect on May 7, final details will only be revealed by Apple during the Let Loose event. Nonetheless, the rumors suggest a significant leap forward for both the iPad Pro and iPad Air, potentially catering to a wider range of users with improved performance, display quality, and design features.
