K-POP IDOL LEE TAE-GEUN DIES AFTER LONG BATTLE WITH COVID-19 VACCINE COMPLICATIONS: REPORT

Popular K-pop star Lee Tae-geun, formerly a member of the K-pop group Akdong Club (Naughty Boys Club), passed away on September 4 after a two-year battle with health complications, which reportedly began following his Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination. His burial took place on August 5 at the Yaeun Memorial Park Columbarium in Eumseong County, North Chungcheong Province.

Akdong Club, a five-member male idol group, made its debut in 2002 after being selected through an MBC program. The group quickly gained popularity and even won the Rookie of the Year award that same year. After the group disbanded, Lee Tae-geun returned to the music scene as part of a new group called The A.D. alongside Jung Yi-deun, Jung Yoon-don and Yang Chi-hwan.

In February 2022, a distressing petition was posted on the Blue House petition board by Lee Tae-geun’s wife, detailing the heartbreaking details of his health. Lee Tae-geun’s family shared that he began to suffer severe side effects following his third dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. He experienced symptoms such as headaches and vomiting, which led to a hospital visit where he was diagnosed with a subarachnoid haemorrhage and was subsequently admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), informs The Korea Times.

His wife explained at the time, “The attending doctor explained that subarachnoid hemorrhages are usually caused by trauma, but in my husband’s case, there was no trauma, and the cause of the bleeding couldn’t be identified. There is no specific treatment plan or method.”

She further added, “It is frustrating that they cannot explain the connection between the vaccine and these symptoms, despite them occurring after the vaccination.”

Lee Tae-geun’s condition worsened, with his wife describing his situation in the ICU as critical. He had lost over 20 kilograms, could not eat and was unable to receive nutritional supplements. She made a desperate plea for help, seeking assistance to save her husband’s life, reports The Korea Times.

Lee Tae-geun reportedly did not receive any compensation for his condition, as no confirmed link was established between the vaccine and his subarachnoid hemorrhage.

His untimely passing has led to an outpouring of grief and condolences from his fans.
