INDIAN 2 BOX OFFICE COLLECTION: KAMAL HAASAN STARRER EARNS JUST RS 10 CRORE IN SECOND WEEK

As his two films have hit the screens, Kamal Haasan is experiencing two extreme reactions. On one side is Kalki 2898 AD which is fighting its way to become the fourth highest grossing film of Indian cinema, and on the other end is Indian 2, which saw a dramatic fall in the second week.

Indian 2 is a sequel to Haasan and Shankar’s 1996 blockbuster film Hindustani, which saw Kamal Haasan as freedom fighter Senapathy. Indian 2 takes the story of Senapthy in the 21st century, and sees him battling widespread corruption in the country. The film in the first week, earned about Rs 70.4 crore thanks to excellent advance booking, but in the second week, the film crashed by more than 85 % to earn just Rs 10 crore, taking the overall collection of the film to Rs 80.4 crore.

The film faced a lot of criticism for the execution of a very good plot line. The buzz for the film was so negative, that it forced the makers to edit 20 minutes of the film on the second day itself, hoping the fortunes would change, but things didn’t go as planned.

Indian 2 was supposed to be just a sequel, but director Shankar decided to split it into two films, so now Indian is a trilogy, though one would wonder what would be the status of the third part now. The film also features Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Agarwal, and SJ Suryah. In the pipeline, Kamal Haasan has Thug Life with Mani Ratnam, Vikram 2 with Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Kalki 2 with Nag Ashwin. Shankar though, has a chance of redemption with his next release which is Game Changer with Ram Charan and Kiara Advani.
