HERETIC TRAILER: CREEPY HUGH GRANT TRAPS UNSUSPECTING NUNS IN A24’S THEOLOGICAL HORROR FILM

The revival of arthouse horror is truly upon us, with the indie distributor A24 leading the pack with a string of acclaimed hits. Poised to join the studio's slate of successful films is Heretic, headlined by Hugh Grant. A24 unveiled a new trailer for the film on Thursday.

The film’s logline reveals that the movie mixes themes of religion and faith, and is about two missionaries, Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East), who become entangled in a deadly game after knocking on the door of the malevolent Mr Reed. In the trailer we see Grant playing against type - he broke out as a romantic hero in the '90s - as he traps the young missionaries in his devious set of games and scare the heck out of them, and, of course, us.

Heretic, which had its world premiere at last month’s Toronto International Film Fesitval, received rave reviews. Grant's performance has been especially acclaimed.

Directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods - the writing team behind A Quiet Place -  the second trailer also revealed the revised release date of the theological horror film. While the earlier release date was fixed for November 15, the makers have announced that Heretic would hit screens worldwide on November 8.
