SOORI-ANNA BEN’S KOTTUKKAALI TO PREMIERE ON OTT BY MONTH END? WHAT WE KNOW

Sivakarthikeyan-backed Kottukkaali hit the theatres on August 23 and garnered positive reviews from the audience. The horror flick with its compelling screenplay and excellent narration kept the viewers hooked to every scene. The nail-biting climax was highly appreciated. The viewers also praised the director’s ability to showcase a thought-provoking story. On the very first day, Kottukkaali managed to garner a global box office collection of Rs 47 lakh. Kottukkaali is directed by PS Vinothraj and features Soori and Anna Ben. The film opened to great reviews and received critical success, but it had a limited theatrical run as there were other back-to-back Tamil film releases during the same time. Now, as it is gearing up for a digital release; it is being assumed that the film will receive much love from wider audiences now. Kottukkaali will be released on the South Indian OTT streaming platform, Simply South on September 27. Apart from this, the buzz is that the film will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Kottukkaali centres around Anna Ben’s character Meena who faces societal and familial challenges. She is in love with a boy from an oppressed caste and her family believes it is a spell. To exorcise her from the influence of her love for the boy, her family and friends embark on a journey to meet a seer and then perform rituals. The film covers themes of trauma, abuse, power dynamics and other realistic issues. It is the social message that makes it a great watch.

Kottukkaali is helmed by PS Vinothraj, who has also written the story. The film is bankrolled by Sivakarthikeyan under the banner of Sivakarthikeyan Production. The cinematography is done by B Sakthivel and the editor is Ganesh Siva. The audience loved the stellar performances of Soori and Anna Ben. The actress in the film had no dialogue and yet she was able to communicate her emotions and anguish just with her expressions.
